Why to Finding YOUR Motivation to Exercise is so Important!
“But I Don’t Like to Exercise. It’s Hard”; “Exercise is Boring,”; “I Can Never Find the Time to Exercise,”; “I do Enough Exercise Just Doing What I am Doing.”
Yeah, we have heard all of these reasons and more from people who may have convinced themselves that they can’t or don’t want to get involved in a consistent exercise program. It is not their fault nor is it your fault if you feel the same way. Our bodies were meant to move. We were designed to be hunter/gatherers, but none of us really do any of that anymore. We have easy access to food and shelter. Furthermore, the majority of the jobs we take involve little to no movement.
So, our bodies accommodate by not working as well. This “disuse” is what causes all of those bad things to happen that we attribute to aging. Furthermore, we get used to being inactive, so it makes it harder for us to get motivated to exercise.
So, what you should do first when you realize that exercise is necessary, but before you commit to an exercise program is find YOUR MOTIVATION for doing it.
That is something only you can answer.
What is it in life that you want to experience or enjoy for a much longer period of time, or be part of that will require you to remain in good shape? It may be you want to enjoy time with your children or grandchildren. It may be because you want to look good in the clothes you wear. Maybe you want to lose weight or run a marathon. Or maybe you just want to avoid the graveyard for a long, long, time.
This may be a hard question to answer for some, especially those who have lived long enough to see their children grow up and are approaching or are past retirement.
So, you’ll have to dig deep and figure it out. But we encourage you to spend the time doing so.
If you can’t find your own motivation, maybe you have to look for some through another person’s experience. Have you ever dealt with a loved one ending up in a nursing home or dying a long slow death because they lived an unhealthy life? I have! It is not pretty, and at times serves as motivation for me to stay fit and to exercise.
Find your true motivation for exercising and we promise you it will help you to get started and stay committed to doing so. You will also achieve your goals and realize what you were motivated to doing exercise for was well worth it!
